Advantages of Canned Pump

Leakage-Free Design

One of the most significant advantages of canned pumps is their leak-free design. This makes them ideal for handling toxic, flammable, or corrosive fluids, ensuring both safety and environmental compliance.

Energy Efficiency

Canned pumps are known for their energy efficiency. With no leakage and a hermetically sealed design, they operate at peak efficiency, reducing energy consumption and lowering operational costs over time.

Minimal Maintenance

Canned pumps offer flexibility in design and customization. They can be tailored to specific applications and operating conditions, providing a versatile solution for a wide range of industries.

Compact and Space-Saving

This feature makes canned pumps small in size and hence take less space and this is favorable for installations that have constrained space.

Quiet Operation

Noise reduction is another advantage of canned pumps. The hermetic sealing and integrated design minimize vibrations and noise during operation, creating a quieter working environment.

Versatile

Canned pumps are versatile and can be used in a wide range of applications. They are suitable for handling various fluids, including corrosive, toxic, and high-temperature liquids.

Application of Canned Pump

01/

Chemical and Petrochemical Industries: Canned pumps are commonly used in the chemical processing industry to transfer chemicals and other fluids during the production process. Their sealed design makes them ideal for transferring solvents, acids, bases, and petrochemicals.

02/

Pharmaceutical Industry: In pharmaceutical manufacturing, canned pumps provide leak-proof operation for sensitive fluids under strict hygiene standards, maintaining the integrity of pharmaceutical-grade chemicals.

03/

HVAC and Green Energy: Canned pumps are utilized in HVAC systems and renewable energy applications like solar, geothermal, and biomass systems.

04/

Food and Beverage Industry: In food and beverage processing, canned pumps ensure contamination-free operation, maintaining safety and quality in cooling processes.

05/

Refrigeration: Canned pumps are designed to handle extra-low temperatures, making them suitable for industrial refrigeration applications.

06/

Water treatment: It is used in water treatment plants to transfer chemicals, such as chlorine, sodium hydroxide, and hydrochloric acid, to treat and disinfect water.

The Difference Between Canned Pump and Centrifugal Pump

Design

A canned pump integrates the motor and pump into a single, hermetically sealed unit. The rotor of the motor and the impeller are on the same shaft, and the motor is cooled and lubricated by the pumped liquid. On the other hand, centrifugal pumps have an electric motor and pump separated, with a shaft connecting them. The motor is usually outside the pump housing and the shaft extends through the pump to connect the motor to the impeller.

Leakage

Centrifugal pumps rely on mechanical seals or glands to prevent fluid leakage along the shaft. These seals wear over time and are a common point of maintenance or failure. Canned pumps, on the other hand, have no shaft seal; the motor and pump are completely sealed within the same housing. This virtually eliminates leakage, making them ideal for handling toxic, hazardous, or expensive fluids.

Usage Requirements

Training: Before using a canned pump, it is essential to undergo proper training on how to operate it safely. Training should also cover emergency procedures in case of accidents.

Personal Protective Equipment: Workers should always wear personal protective equipment (PPE) when handling canned pumps. This includes gloves, goggles, and protective clothing.

Proper Ventilation: Canned pumps should be used in well-ventilated areas to prevent the buildup of hazardous fumes.

Safety measures: Operators must ensure proper priming, temperature monitoring, grounding, and leak detection systems. Overheating protection and automatic shut-off devices are often installed.

Compatibility: Always refer to the pump’s manual to ensure that it is compatible with the chemicals being used.

Q: How does a canned pump work?

A: The stator is canned in the air gap, confining the liquid in the rotor chamber. The pump liquid circulates through the rotor chamber, cooling the motor, and lubricating the slide bearings that support the rotor. The casing of the chamber forms a sealless enclosure that confines the liquid without any dynamic sealing.

Q: What is the difference between a canned pump and a non-canned pump?

A: Unlike traditional pumps that rely on seals and gaskets, canned motor pumps eliminate the risk of leakage. This makes them ideal for handling toxic, flammable, or corrosive fluids, ensuring both safety and environmental compliance.

Q: What are canned pumps?

A: A canned pump, also known as a hermetically sealed pump, is a type of centrifugal pump in which the motor and pump are enclosed within a single, sealed housing. This design eliminates the need for mechanical seals, preventing leakage of hazardous or toxic fluids.

Q: What is the difference between magnetic and canned pumps?

A: Magnetic drive motors have a single containment zone. This means the fluid is contained in a single-walled can. A canned pump, on the contrary, has double containment where the fluid is encased in a sealed can (stator liner), which in turn is encased in the pressure-proof motor casing.

Q: What are the main components of a canned pump?

A: The key components include the impeller, stator, rotor, containment can, thrust bearing, radial bearing, suction casing, and discharge casing.

Q: How is the motor cooled in a canned pump?

A: The pumped liquid circulates through the motor section, absorbing heat from the stator and rotor, and then returns to the main flow. This provides both cooling and lubrication.

Q: Why are canned pumps considered environmentally friendly?

A: Because they eliminate the possibility of fluid leakage, they prevent emissions of hazardous or volatile substances into the atmosphere, contributing to a cleaner and safer environment.

We're well-known as one of the leading canned pump manufacturers and suppliers in China. Please rest assured to buy cheap canned pump from our factory. All custom made products are with high quality and competitive price.
