Air Liquide Doubles Production in India

Global industrial gas giant Air Liquide Group is set to open its second Air Separation Unit (ASU) and a cylinder filling station in Bhagpura Village, Gujarat, India.According to Air Liquide, the new facility will have a daily production capacity of 200 tons for the ASU, while the filling station can process nearly 1,000 cylinders per day. This expansion will effectively double Air Liquide's production capacity in the region, where it supplies on-site, bulk, and packaged gases to sectors like automotive, battery, electronics, and medical gases to hospitals.

"By investing in this new air separation plant and cylinder filling center, Air Liquide will more than double its production capacity in Gujarat," said Benoit Renard, Managing Director of Air Liquide India. The company also plans to operate the plant using renewable energy starting in 2029, aligning with its sustainability goals and the state's 2023 Renewable Energy Policy, which aims for 50% renewable energy capacity by 2030.

Air Liquide Group operates at least seven ASUs in India, with a new unit commissioned in Nagpur, Maharashtra, in December 2022, and another beginning operations in Kosi, Uttar Pradesh, in July 2024. The company also announced plans in 2022 for a fifth ASU in Nagpur.

The new ASU will boost the gas capacity in the western region of Gujarat to approximately 11,100 tons per day, contributing to the country's industrial gas market, which is projected to reach $6.82 billion by 2033.
